Appalachian Trail Chapter NSDAR

The Appalachian Trail Chapter NSDAR is one of approximately 3,000 chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) located in the United States and internationally. With over one million women joining since its founding in 1890, the DAR is a women’s service organization deep in tradition and history.

Our chapter honors the three objectives laid forth by the founders in promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.  Chapter members volunteer their time and efforts in our local community by:

·         Honoring local veterans through donations and services such as helping them to doctor's           

          appointments.

·         Participating in the "Wreaths Across America" program at Christmas time.

·         Providing countless volunteer hours to local schools, tutoring and helping students.

·         Provide needed items for the children at the DAR sponsored schools.

·          Provide programs and materials to students at local schools during Constitution Week.

·         Sponsor the local John Carroll Society Children of the America Revolution (C.A.R.) in Hillsville,

          Virginia.

·         Recognizes good citizens through the DAR Good Citizens scholarship given at Carroll County     

          High School and Galax High School each year.

·         Participates in the fun and fellowship of the Fourth of July celebrations in Hillsville, Virginia, each            year.

·         Honors our heritage by helping others research and learn about their family’s history and     

          genealogy.

·         Helps in preserving, marking, and cleaning gravestones in local cemeteries.

·         Members also have been seen enjoying a cup of tea at one of the chapter tea parties held at     

          The Hale Wilkerson Carter Home in downtown Hillsville, Virginia.

The members of the Appalachian Trail Chapter NSDAR serve and supports the people in the local community and the preservation of its history for future generations. We invite you to join us in our endeavors!
